NANTUA FARM

Nantua Farm currently specializes in retraining off-the-track thoroughbreds, finishing horses and, occasionally starting young horses. Depending on the circumstance we can also offer training for "problem" horses. The saying around Nantua Farm is that there is never a horse that we can not help. However, because our trainer, Lindsey Hays, is returning to school to become a doctor, all training horses will be considered on a case-by-case basis, so please call us for more information on whether your horse and the type of training he or she requires can be accommodated.

A few of the off-the-track thoroughbreds we've retrained include:

Double Blue - 17.1 hh dark bay off-the-track thoroughbred gelding  CLICK FOR PEDIGREE

"Blue" raced for eight years, winning over $300,000 in his racing career. After dropping from stakes races to allowance races to claimers, he was eventually retired at the age of 10. Neglected and forgotten until his previous owner, Amanda Seiler, bought him from his racing trainer, Blue sported 9 visible ribs and horrible mud fever on both hind legs. On a buying trip, Lindsey saw him, bought him and began retraining him in 2006. He is now schooling 1st and 2nd level dressage and will be competing this summer.

Lac Foret - 16.2 hh chestnut ex-steeplechase thoroughbred gelding  CLICK FOR PEDIGREE

"Charlie" had a long and winding road before arriving at Nantua Farm. As a three year old, Charlie raced in hurdle races in Maryland, but never broke his maiden (best finish was third). Following that, his history gets hazy, but in the fall of 2006 he was donated to the University of Kentucky Polo Club as a polo prospect. Untrained, too tall and outfitted with one mean buck, Charlie was quickly passed over as a potential polo pony. In the summer of 2007, Lindsey purchased him from the UK Polo Club and began his retraining. He has since shown at a horse trial in Wisconsin while on lease in Illinois and is now back home undergoing further training for hunt seat and foxhunting. While he did well as an eventer, we believe he will excel further and enjoy foxhunting or hunters more.

We offer Training Board, On-Site and Off-Site Training Sessions (1 hour each) and Track Let Down for Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds.
