NANTUA FARM

Opened in 2006, Nantua Farm has found its niche in the equine industry with retraining off-the-track thoroughbreds. Our trainer, Lindsey Hays, an experienced polo player, dressage rider and eventer, focuses on utilizing natural horsemanship to gain the trust and respect of each and every horse she trains which ultimately creates the perfect partnership between horse and human.

Lindsey moved to central Kentucky with her family in 2006 from the suburbs of Baltimore, MD. While attending Garrison Forest School in Maryland, Lindsey first began riding in their hunter program, but eventually transitioned over to their nationally renowned interscholastic polo program, then coached by Kelly Wells.

After graduation, she continued to follow her love of polo and worked for Kelly and Trevor Wells, the Maryland Polo Club and played for the Potomac Polo School under the instruction of Charlie Muldoon.

In 2005, however, Lindsey purchased her first horse, a cantankerous chestnut quarter horse named Featured Clue CLICK FOR PEDIGREE, and began boarding him at Our Farm, an eventing facility in Mt. Airy, MD. It was at that point that she began to fall in love with the sport of eventing, which would eventually lead her toward her true passion, dressage. While training with Lora Kutteroff of Our Farm, Lindsey learned the amazing benefits of natural horsemanship and was taught step by step how to be patient, calm and understanding with every horse through these methods.

After moving to Kentucky in 2006, Lindsey began focusing her attention on retraining off-the-track thoroughbreds. One of her OTTB retrains (Lac Foret) was actually purchased from the University of Kentucky Polo Club, which Lindsey created and founded.  Thanks to polo and her own horses she was restarting, it became clear to her that training horses was what she wanted to do. It was at this point that she established Nantua Farm.

Since starting Nantua Farm, Lindsey has specialized mostly in starting and fixing problem horses. Over the years she has built a training system that works well for each and every horse she works with no matter their breed or discipline. By observing and learning the methods of many of the masters in the training field, she was able to craft methods to turn unstarted youngsters, off-the-track retrains and "problem" horses into the horse you've always wanted.

She is currently focusing on her dressage training with several local Kentucky trainers and has returned to school to become a large animal veterinarian. For this reason, Nantua Farm, after some serious discussions has come to the consensus that we will no longer be offering long-term boarding. We will be offering short-term training only (1-3 months) on a case-by-case basis. For more information, please visit our Boarding page.
